The Go Phone, AT&T's Pay as You Go option, is a great alternative for those who need a cell phone, but don't need a long term cell phone plan. Go phones allow users to benefit from AT&T Cingular service at a reasonable price while enjoying the freedom of paying for cell phone service only when they need it.
How Do Go Phones Work?
Unlike some pre-pay mobile phone services, AT&T offers the flexibility of two plans to meet the needs of different consumers with interest in no-contract phones.
Pay As You Go
This Go Phone plan is a traditional pay as you go arrangement. Users can choose a ten cents per minute plan or twenty-five cents per minute plan. The ten cents per minute plan charges users a dollar per day on days they use their phones, with unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling. The twenty-five cents per minute plan has no daily fee, but charges twenty-five cents a minute for all calls.
Pick Your Plan
This plan more closely resembles a traditional cell phone plan. Users choose a monthly fee that corresponds to how many minutes they wish to have available to them each month. These plans often offer additional night and weekend minutes, and in many cases, allow unlimited mobile-to-mobile calls.
Easy to Use
Users pay for Pay as You Go Go Phones through a pre-paid reload card. Users put as much money on the card as they will need to use the phone and reload as necessary. This means no commitments beyond the amount of money the user loads onto the card. When a Go Phone owner is ready for a new phone or a new plan, she can just get one, as simple as that. The Pick Your Plan Go Phone is then linked to a major credit card, debit card or checking account from which the fees are deducted. Again, users are not liable for any additional charges once they have stopped using the phone.
Great Option for College Students
Since Go Phones require no annual contract or credit check, they are a great option for college students who have not yet had time to build up a credit history. Parents can give Go Phones to their college-aged children without worrying about how they will manage a long-term cell phone plan.
Great for the Budget-Conscious Consumer
Go Phones are reasonably priced and since users are only paying for exactly what they use or on a month-to-month basis, there is an opportunity to spend much less on cell phone usage than with a traditional plan.
